Not Every Crystal Should Get Wet
Water can dissolve, dull or rust certain stones, and it is hard on strung jewelry. When in doubt, use a dry method. This guide is about protecting your pieces.
Generally Water-Tolerant (Quartz Family)
- Clear quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz and tiger's eye tolerate a quick rinse.
- Even so, avoid long soaks and always dry beaded jewelry thoroughly.
Keep These Dry
- Selenite dissolves in water—never rinse a selenite wand.
- Soft, porous or metallic stones such as halite, calcite, malachite, pyrite, fluorite and black tourmaline set in metal are safer dry.
Safe Dry Cleansing
- Rest pieces on selenite for ten minutes (selenite stays dry itself).
- Pass through sage or incense smoke—see incense cleansing.
- Use moonlight, sound or breath visualization.

FAQ
People Also Ask
Can selenite go in water?
No—selenite is soft and dissolves when wet; cleanse it with moonlight or smoke instead.
Is it safe to shower with a crystal bracelet?
It is better to remove it: soap, heat and prolonged water damage both the stones and the elastic cord.
